ooking for something out of the ordinary? Tired of the traditional
safari programme? Why not try a specialist frogging weekend
at the supreme Amakhosi Lodge.
Situated on the banks of Zululand’s Mkuze River in 10 000 hectares
of prime game reserve, AmaKhosi Lodge is home to the Big Five
and over 400 species of birds… as well as hundreds of FROGS!!!
Guests are now able to participate in frogging safaris where
“froggy fanatic” and General Manager of AmaKhosi Lodge, Alwyn
Wentzel, will guide you into the reeds on the banks of the Mkuze
in search of all things that go…. “Ribbit”.

ll frogging enthusiasts can look forward
to an orientation comprising a PowerPoint presentation on frogs
and what they can expect to find when out on safari. With gumboots
provided, the frogging safari begins with a early evening dinner
in the bush. As evening becomes alive with nocturnal sounds,
guests head off to a pre-identified location in search of all
that goes ‘quark’ or is that ribbit? As frogs are identified,
they are caught and placed in a plastic bag for all to observe
their beauty and diversity in colour and feet. Once examined,
the frog is carefully placed back where he was found and it
is onto finding the next species.
This safari is seasonal and only applies in the rainy months
from November to March each year.
