In a remote region of South Africa, three mountain ranges meet – the Drakensberg, the Witteberg and the Maluti Mountain Ranges. In this spectacular place lies a very special hideaway, where the hand of man has brushed - but lightly. Tenahead Mountain Reserve is hidden in over 3 500 hectares of unspoilt mountains, valleys and streams. It holds a treasury of flora and fauna and it is the perfect place to experience romantic mountain hospitality.

The Tenahead Mountain Reserve lodge is hand built by stonemasons - Basotho style - from rocks and stone collected from the area. The natural, rustic look created by the local stone and subtle architecture blends into the environment, hiding a warm and luxurious interior.

Accommodation at Tenahead Mountain Reserve

The Tenahead Mountain Reserve lodge has 7 en-suite bedrooms with open fireplaces, which are lit throughout snowy winters. Each room is beautifully furnished for comfort and luxury. Large double glazed windows grace and cocoon each bedroom, framing panoramic views of the mountains and valleys. The Tenahead Mountain Reserve rooms all have a stocked bar fridge, tea and coffee facilities, satellite television and a satellite phone. The bathrooms are fitted with both a shower and a bath.

The Lodge has three lounges, a breakfast room, main dining room and library. There are two wooden decks where lunches and sundowners can be enjoyed, weather permitting.
The reception area has a curio shop, stocked with a variety of African art, (Xhosa and Basotho), as well as local art sourced from the area. Tenahead Mountain Reserve has a wine cellar stocked with some of South Africa’s finest wines, catering for all selective red and white wine tastes. An indigenous garden and natural water feature is crafted and cultivated from the alpine flora and materials in the surrounding mountains, blending in beautifully with the natural environment.

Tenahead Mountain Reserve lies in an area of Southern Africa that receives more snow than anywhere else in the region. Just 26km away is Southern Africa’s premier ski resort, Tiffindell. Tiffindell offers everything the skier would need or want, from equipment to expert tutoring and a variety of challenges, the longest being a 1km ski slope. There are snow machines to ensure good snow and ski conditions. Tenahead Mountain Reserve staff will book day excursions on request and transport guests to and from the ski resort. Skiing season is from the beginning of June to the end of August.

A Nature Lover’s Eden, Tenahead Mountain Reserve is home to many antelope and smaller animals including lynx, jackal, rock rabbits, a cacophony of frogs and toads in the warmer summer months, various reptiles and over 300 species of birds. The hills and valleys are a cornucopia of wild flowers and at night skies are spangled with millions of stars. Tenahead Mountain Reserve will reawaken a spirit inside you often dampened by modern-living.
